Series 1 Micro Spy and Series 2 Divemaster Roberto arrived yesterday. The NTS on these guys is strange. Like almonds, and if you've ever read Love in a Time of Cholera, you'd know that almonds are the smell of unrequited love. But that makes no damned sense and has absolutely nothing to do with Microman. Spy comes in a plastic tube, maybe an ode to the capsules of the classic Micromen.

Besides the great new updated figures, these guys have way better gear than the old Micros. And more specialized at that, with a strong theme to each one ( Automaster's bike armor, MicroNinja's swords, Roberto's sea pod, etc)

Micro Spyman is great: dark translucent plastic with nice designs and emblems stamped on. Cool headsculpt and weird gear. He's like some futuristic offshoot of that classic black suit/white shirt G-man spy, IMO. Head sculpt sorta reminds me of Destro.

Comes with: claw, harpoon (maybe like a launching grappling hook), and some backpack (somewhat a jetpack?) with these strange gripping arms. Oh and a small spotlight attached to the harness as well.

Between him and Spy, I can't choose a favorite. But this guy kicks ass...nice head sculpt (humanoid wearing elaborate diving headgear), and the colors! Pearlescent light blue with brown markings, and elaborate gold emblems. His coloring, IMO, has the vibe that he belongs in some tropical sea. And the Sea Pod is just too much, very detailed, well designed. The pod's window even has a murky wash to it.

The pod has two circular doors on each side, allowing Roberto reach his arms out and fire the pod's guns. (after swiveling the pod's arms around that is) His pod has little lights at the front, but the interiors of each door have what may be more lamps, in case Roberto needs extra light. Part of the appeal of these guys is that you can fill in the blanks with your own imagination.

And for kicks, some more Voltech shots:

Yeah... I love the way that Spy head looks with the gear wrapped around the back (note the tiny microphone on his left cheek)

That's why I used that head with the Commander body to make the samurai figure....

Awesome haul, and cool review man! Funny you mentioned Destro, because that is what instantly came to mind when I got mine! Keep the reviews coming!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">*bows* will do! I've my eyes set on Hayate, Acroscorl, and the rest of the Microforce. So maybe one more of each set next time. I'll see how money goes with the Mcfarlane stuff that's coming out and all. Gotta admit though, these guys are close to the price of Star Wars figs yet you get SO much more for your dollar.

And Baimun, yep the microphone on Spy is a great touch. Really the first set feels like they're some elite Micro fighting force, while the newer guys seem more like specialized solo troops (given the distinct environments that they belong to)

As far as display pieces that I set up on my desk and shelves... McFarlane stuff is the clear winner.

As far as "toys" that I like to pose and just have fun with... the Takara Microman stuff kicks all the Marvel Legend's asses and everything else too...

Well I like ML too, but for smaller figures at the same price, the Micros seem to be produced better. Granted Takara doesn't have to worry about likenesses and skin tones, but the Micro bodies are just put together tighter. I dig the double-ball joints in the shoulders especially.

I'd like to see some 6'' figures using the Microman body designs one day.
